Introduction:
Elections are a crucial part of democracy. They let citizens choose their leaders and make sure they do what they promised. By voting, people get to decide what's best for their country, state, or community. Elections bring new ideas and perspectives, making sure power is shared fairly and governments work for the people. When citizens vote, they're using their voice to influence decisions that affect their lives. Elections are essential for democracy to work well and for people to be represented.
A Brief of Overview:
Pakistan general elections are held every 5 years to elect member of the National Assembly, lower house of parliament. The 2024 elections are particular significant as they come at a time when the country is facing problems like:
- Economic struggles (people are struggling financially)
- Security concerns (people are worried about safety)
- Demands for change in government institutions (people want improvements)
So, this vote will help decide how to address these issues and shape Pakistan's future.
Pakistan Political Parties:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI):
Led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, PTI has a strong following among younger voters and the urban middle class. The party's agenda focuses on anti-corruption measures, economic growth, and social welfare programs. Khan’s tenure was marked by ambitious promises and substantial challenges, and PTI will be aiming to capitalise on its achievements while addressing past criticisms.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N):
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is a powerful political party led by Shehbaz Sharif. It has a strong history and is known for its work on building roads, bridges, and other important projects, as well as growing the economy. The party hopes to win back the trust of voters who are unhappy with the corruption of Sharif brothers and their children and also the current government's performance.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP):
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is a political party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and has a strong following in the province of Sindh. The party wants to grow its support across the country but mostly people are unhappy with them because Zardari and his children names have been involved in corruption cases like Dubai leaks. It draws strength from its historical connection to the respected Bhutto family, who have played a significant role in Pakistan's politics.
New and Emerging Parties:
Smaller parties and independent candidates also play crucial roles, often influencing coalition dynamics and regional politics.
Major Issues at Stake:
Here are some major issues that are likely to be significant in the upcoming elections in Pakistan:
1. Economic Crisis: High inflation, poverty, and unemployment are major concerns for the voters.
2. Corruption and Governance:Corruption and accountability remains significant issues, with many political parties and leaders facing corruption charges.
3. Education and Health: Access to quality education and healthcare remains inadequate in many areas. Political parties are presenting plans to improve these essential services, focusing on reforms and increased investment.
4. Security: Terrorism and law and order issues continue to be a concern, especially in Balochistan.
5. Political Instability: Political instability and the role of institutions like the military and judiciary are likely to be debated.
6. Social Justice: Issues like poverty, inequality, and access to healthcare and education are important to voters.
My Personal Opinion About Pakistan's Election 2024:
This was the first election in my life in which I cast my vote on 8th February. This election was very strange and disappointed for me. Maybe such incident have happened before but it was my first time so I felt very bad.
Now I tell you about the situation before the elections. Firstly we will discuss about level playing field for each party, Campaigns of each parties judicial and media role in these elections. Some opposition leadership of PMLN was arrested before the elections and make various lawsuits on them. Near 200 cases were filed on chairman PTI. All cases consist of lies. 90% coverage were given to all other parties except PTI. Even the name of Imran khan could not be taken on TV nor could his picture be shown. Whenever there was any campaign of PMLN, they were provided with full official protocol. On the other hand, a complete ban was imposed on the campaigns of PTI. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf was stripped of its electoral symbol and thrown out of the election. Our chief justice provided full help on this. This decision of his will always be a stain on the feet of the judiciary of Pakistan. Then justice Athar minallah said that where is it written in the law that no party can contest elections due to lake of electoral symbols?

Then Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaaf contested the election as independent party.
Election Day:
On election day, PTI voters came out in large numbers to vote. 75% of the people of Pakistan voted for PTI and the remaining 25% voted for all other parties. A few hours after the end of polling, when the results were declared, PTI was leading everywhere. After that the results were withheld. We waited for the results till morning. And the next morning when we saw the results, they were completely different from the night results. In the morning results PTI had lost from the areas where it was leading at night. Everyone was very surprised and worried about that. Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaaf had won from our area too but our mandate was robbed and given to the opposition party. The situation was same in all other regions of Pakistan. I did not see any respect for the people's opinion or their mandate in these elections.
PM and President Selection:
The party which was defeated was won as per fake form 47 and imposed on us. Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the Prime Minister and Zardari was elected as the President of Pakistan by robbing our mandate. Unfair elections are bad for democracy. They make people lose trust in the voting process. When elections are rigged or manipulated, citizens can't choose their leaders or have a say in their future. This leads to unhappiness, protests, and political chaos, which can make inequality and corrupt governments worse. To make elections fair, we need strong voting rules, protection for voters' rights, and transparency. This way, everyone's voice is heard, and democracy works for all people.
